The Destination

Morocco is a fascinating and very diverse country with its mountains, vast vegetation, bustling cities and the desert. The Moroccans are proud and very hospitable and love to interact with tourists and invite them for tea. Tafedna is a small Berber fishing village on the west coast, 50 km south of Essaouira. The bay of Tafedna is still untouched, deserted and a beautiful place for meditation walks and strolls and beach days with hardly any body else on the beach. The average temperature is 20-25 C and the sun shines every day. From Sep/Oct to March there are constant clean waves rolling in to the bay, ideal for surfing. During the summer months the north wind turns up and offers great kitesurf conditions. The Moroccan cuisine is full of delicious spices, always freshly prepared with fish/meat and flavorful veggies, lentils, chickpeas and home made bread. Each meal is followed by the famous Moroccan tea - you will love it!

The Experience

Villa Aljana Tafedna, 50 km south of Essaouira, offers you beautiful accommodation with a big garden within walking distance of the beach. It's the ideal location for a retreat with 8-15 participants, enjoying the good vibes, tranquillity, untouched nature and feeling part of a big family. The deserted beach invites you to meditation walks, breathtaking sunsets, listening to the sounds of the birds and the waves, walking barefoot all day long and connecting with mother Earth. Each day you get to savour healthy Moroccan dishes with fresh ingredients from the area. The spacious roof terrace with 360° view over the Atlantic and the Argan hills is a beautiful spot for your yoga sessions.

Aljana means "paradise" in Arabic ... and it indeed feels like paradise here!

Accommodation

There are 4 spacious rooms (double and triple) in the villa, all with private bathroom and direct access to the terrace with a stunning sea view. The communal living area with a large dining table and sofa are the cosy get-together place to hang out in the evening, enjoy the open fire, savor delicious Moroccan cuisine prepared by Keltoum and her sister Khadija. The two stand alone Bungalows in the garden can take up to 2 or 4 persons with twin bed in the bedroom and two proper beds in the living room serving as sofa. The kitchenette is equipped with a fridge, water kettle, one electrical stove with pans and a coffee maker.

I grew up in Switzerland, close to Zurich, and worked in several international companies. Surfing brought me to Morocco and making my heart ache each time I had to leave the country again. So I decided to pack my car and drive down to Morocco to live in this vast country for a while and discover the "real" Morocco and mingle in with the locals. I planned to stay for some month and then kept extending and eventually applied for residency. Two years after having moved to Morocco I met Fayçal and we started the surf school "Dancing the Waves". After some years we moved to remote beautiful Tafedna, close to Essaouira, to get away from the busy surf spots and share this unique place with surf, kitesurf and retreat guests from all over the world.

Tell us more about what brought you to the path that you're on, the "why" behind your business and your offering(s), what excites you most about the work that you do, etc...?

Organizing, bringing like minded people together and offering them a cosy place with comfort to stay, is my passion! A place you can find your inner peace, connect with your soul, move on and thrive. I'll be happy to help you organise your retreat in our premises, taking over all the logistics so you can fully concentrate on the content and your students. Having lived in Morocco for over 8 years enabled me to find competent partners to work with, develop my creativity in finding solutions, embrace challenges with humor and always have a plan B.
